Nana & I (mostly Nana) have been watching two of our grand-children for the last few weeks so geocaching has had to take a back set. My oldest daughter took the two grand-children we were watching so that Nana & I could get a day of caching under our belts. So I compiled a quick list and off to Virginia Beach we went.

The plan was to clear out the area around Mt. Trashmore and then head over towards Norfolk but the best laid plans often run into muggles. We started off heading towards one particular cache but when we arrived there was a young man who was sitting at GZ and he had no intentions of moving – skipped this cache and we moved on and arrived at GZ for “Phoon at Mt Trashmore. We had been looking for a few minutes when two young ladies approached us and asked if were geocaching. Turns out Cyndaria, a very nice college student up from North Carolina with her younger sister, were also looking for the same cache. Good thing we ran into her as she quickly made the find. She helped us take the required pic and then we teamed up for another cache in the area, “Mount Cachemore II”. We were pretty sure we were in the right area but couldn’t locate the cache. I decided to PAF and was on the phone when Cyndaria made the find. We really enjoyed meeting such nice young ladies out of the trail. We said our goodbyes and made our way to “Clean Cut” which eluded us until we finally decided to come back in cooler weather.

Other finds for the day were: Beau Crique (nice), Golfers Break (P&G), kempsville lakes micro (lovely view), Need A Lift? (park, walk and grab), more to come (P&G), Dead Ringer Cache (P&G), World’s Largest Nano (very cute but we had to replace the log as when we opened the container – no log inside), The first for Tait (nice park), and An Epiphany! (beautiful church).

We ended up the day with a total of 13 finds, enough to take the edge off our geocaching addiction pains we had been feeling but not enough to brag about. We also had four DNFs and another 8 that we skipped for one reason or another (marked them as winter without getting out of the car, realized we weren’t prepared with the proper tools, etc.). It is getting to be the time of year where Nana & I are kind of particular about which caches we go after. We have spent several hours picking ticks off each other this year already so when we arrive at or near GZ and realize that ticks may be involved we put those caches on our “Winter List”. Then, starting in about November we pull out that list and start going back to those pesky previously overgrown areas.

We had one cache that earned a favorite point today and that was “GC2X991 – Flight of the Bison” – a really nice cache.

The winner of the “Coveted Nana & Papa Cache of the Day Award (and also earned a favorite point) was:
GC2XJVB – The Roving Kind hidden by davidandpatty – a great cache ! ! !

Hopefully we will see all or most of you Tuesday at the Meet N Greet.

P.S. – for those of you that are reading hoping for an update – stay tuned – should have something soon.

As always – Stay Safe & Keep Caching.
